An important note about ignition kit fittment:
We currently offer three different Dyna ignition kits for the Yamaha RD family. For US customers please just order either the RD250/350 DS7/R5 kit or the RD400 kit. For international customers please see the notes below as there were differences between international models.
Our RD250/350 DS7/R5 kit fits American and Canadian DS7, RD250, R5, and RD350 models as well as the same UK / Australian models up to 1975. This kit fits these models that use a stamped (pressed) steel alternator housing with the Mitsubishi logo (3 diamonds) stamped into it . The alternator housing is the housing that your points and condenser are currently mounted to.
Our US/Canadian RD400 kit fits American and Canadian RD400’s and Daytonas through 1979 that are equipped with points and condenser ignitions. This kit fits models that use a cast aluminum alternator housing that has the Mitsubishi logo (3 diamonds) cast into it. This housing will also have the brushes for the alternator at the 12 o’clock position on the housing. The alternator housing is the housing that your points and condenser are currently mounted to.
Our UK/Australian RD400/250 kit fits UK and Australian RD400 models and 1976 later RD250 models that are equipped with points and condenser ignitions. This kit fits models that use a cast aluminum alternator housing with the Hitachi logo cast into it. The Hitachi logo looks almost like a bulls eye with a cross hair over it. This housing will also have the brushes for the alternator at the 1:30 o’clock position on the housing. The alternator housing is the housing that your points and condenser are currently mounted to.
